Despite the efforts of the FAA and NTSB to regulate drone flight, it is undeniable that they have been and will continue to be used for malicious, unethical or outright illegal purposes. Cases of drones being used for voyeurism are common, and some well-documented cases highlight how disturbing it can be for drones to fall into the wrong hands. They are also interfering with emergency operations, causing delays to commercial flights and being used to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities. So in order to prevent such incidents from happening again, drone jammer was developed.

In 2015, a drone was able to fly onto the White House lawn — one of the strictest permanent "drone no-go zones" in the country. The incident demonstrates the usefulness of drones when used to undermine security because they are too small to be detected by standard radar equipment.

Although the pilot in charge of the drone was flying just for fun and claimed to have lost control of it, the incident made the nation aware of the dangers of using drones. After all, the lawn on which the drone was recovered is the lawn on which the President's helicopter landed. Without security measures, it is easy to launch an attack using a drone.




With public safety and national security at stake, it's really only a matter of time before drone signal jammer technology is developed. Are they necessary? Arguably, yes, they are -- at least, until a more comprehensive approach to drone pilot accountability can be created. However, drone anti jammer technology must be similarly regulated.
