A new trend in the development of uav jammers

France's army mass use of drone jammer gun

The country’s anti-drone air defense force is training with a rifle-shaped antenna that can jam the remote control signals of a drone. The jammer-wielding soldiers are paired with other shotgun-armed squad members, whose shotguns fire specialized shells. (As to how those shells are specialized, the Ministry doesn’t say, but there is at least one counter-drone system which fires shotgun shells that release nets on the target). Rifle-shaped jamming devices are more common in the counter-drone world, and the United States had adopted them to such a degree that even the National Guard trains with drone-GPS signal jammer rifles.

Used as the main tactical jamming fighter in the world, the Growler is a specific variant of the F/A18-F Super Hornet, and since operational usage started in September 2009, it has been furnished with the AN/ALQ-99 airborne electronic warfare system. The AN/ALQ-99 itself, in any case, can assert significantly to more older devices, having been engineered in the late 1960s, and first used in 1971 together with the EA-6 Prowler, the EW variation of the A-6 Intruder, was ready to see its usage in Vietnam.

Multiple applications of wifi jammer

The drone was likely targeted with a jammer, which simply consists of a device equipped with a radio transmitter that can output multi-band frequencies. The drone's receivers are then saturated, and it can no longer interpret instructions from the person flying it. The UAV fell into the sea, and according to Fstoppers, the city of Toulon has opened an investigation into the matter and has divers searching for the wreckage to further study it.

Incerement 1 will be used to deliver mid-band cell phone signal jammer in order to counter the radars used by surface-air defence systems, it should become operational in 2020/1 and will replace the existing mid-band AN/ALQ-99 on the Growlers. The low band pods that are located under the fuselage of the fighters, were upgraded throughout the years and will be used until 2022, when low-band jammin and surveillance radars will be replaced by the NGJ in Increment 2. Increment 3 will provide the US Navy with new capacities for high-band jamming used in air-to-air engagements with enemy fighters.

What can Duke do? Widely deployed in the Army and Marine Corps, Duke began life as a low-power, short-range jammer to keep radio-controlled roadside bombs from going off. (CREW is a nested acronym for Counter-RCIED (Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device) Electronic Warfare). But Duke evolved into a much more sophisticated system capable of detecting and disrupting a wide range of signals, from cellphones to the control links for enemy drones, as tested in the joint Black Dart experiments.

Last month, L3 and a team of Northrop Grumman and Harris were selected to move forward from a field of four competitors that also included Raytheon and a Lockheed Martin and Cobham team, USNI News has learned. Soon afterwards, Raytheon filed a protest with the Government Accountability Office, arguing it should have been selected to move forward with the low-band jammer effort.
